Torrevieja Writers Circle

The TWC has a new deputy chairman - me! Much to my surprise I was elected today to this very important position. (Funny that there were no other candidates!) I look forward to helping the chairman (Nik Morton) and group members. For more about TWC see their blog

European Parliament Exhibition

The Alicante government has sponsored an exhibition to promote understanding of the EU parliament with the EU elections coming up and the European Day (May 9th) I caught up with the exhibition in Torrevieja and was invited to ask a question about the EU on video to be posted on their blog site Well it is not every day you can address the EU - so watch their blog to see if I appear! They move on to Guardamar and Alicante - looking for more video bloggers!

Cruz de Muela

A group of six intrepid TWCers, one guest, and Misty Blue (Heinke's Mut) today downed their pens (and keyboards) and donned their walking boots to tackle the summit of the Cruz de Muela, Orihuela. A respectable 12 kms and 600 mts ascent. The adventure got off to a great start courtesy of our friends in green - no not Robin Hood and his Merry Men but the G Boys - Multas all round - no one had told us they have very sneakily changed the speed on the CV95 DOWN to 60 kms p/h. But undeterred we climbed to the summit where we met some of friendly locals who kindly took our on location shots. This escapade was inspired by my recent article featuring this walk. Brian proposed a regular yomp to which the TWCers agreed - over to you Brian!

It is a Small World

During our pre-meeting (Torrevieja Writers Circle) coffee one of the other members appeared waving a copy of Intouch (the Aviva/Norwich Union magazine for retired staff) under my nose. "Hey Rob, did you know you are in here? What a surprise to see you on Page 13" (my lucky number) Well yes I had seen the article regarding Horace Greasley (see previous blogs) who has had his book published at 90 years of age - the Worlds Oldest author? in my copy of the magazine which I received yesterday. But I didn't expect anyone from TWC to have seen it! It really is a small world - any other Intouch readers out there??

Move Over Clancy

To be honest much to my surprise, as I do not consider myself a Fiction Writer, a story of mine has been accepted for publication in an anthology for Expat Writers due to be published in a few months time. It is entitled 'Mediterranean Lady Seeks a Friend' and is a short story about an Expat who manages to turn the tables on a lady trying to con him. I actually wrote it some time ago and it has been sitting on the (electronic) shelf waiting for an opportunity to arise and now it has. On another point - having trail blazed the Issuu online publishing (see this blog) The Inland Magazine is now also available on that platform. Where Spainrico goes others follow!

Great to get Feedback!

Sometimes when you finish writing a piece you get the feeling that the work is just right - it really expresses what you want to say and that it does need any major editing. I wrote an article 'Has the Exodus Begun?' a while ago which I was pleased with but then the usual problem of placing it for publication. I thought it perhaps a little too serious for The Inland Magazine but the editor liked it so it appeared in the April edition. Surfing the TIM website this morning I was surprised to see that the readers had already started posting onto the forum with a variety of comments and feedback: just like to congratulate you on your excellent piece in this months edition entitled 'Has the exodus begun?'
